Volvo Key Fob Troubleshooting

Volvo drivers love the remote control capabilities of their key fob. They can lock and unlock their vehicle, start the motor, and even locate it using a smartphone application.

Place the key fob's face up on an uncluttered surface. Locate the button that releases it, wedge an object between the cover and the fob and pull it up slowly.

Locking the Doors

Volvo's remote key fobs are able to unlock the doors, tailgate and flap for filling up the fuel in your vehicle with a press of one button. They also can switch on the ignition, set the alarm, and even operate the sunroof if it's fitted. You'll never need to look for your keys, or be locked out of your vehicle.

If you have a new Volvo model that we have in our dealership, you might be unaware of some of its key fob hidden features. One of them is the manual lock/unlock button, which can be pressed in the event the battery in your key fob dies.

To press the manual lock/unlock switch Hold your key fob with the Volvo logo side up. Find volvo key repair near the edge of your key fob and gently press it. This will open a cover which protects the key blade that is manual. The cover can be flipped counterclockwise by using a flathead or coin.

Starting the Engine

Modern Volvo key fobs offer the convenience and functionality unmatched by traditional manual keys. A key fob, as any other battery-operated device, may lose charge over time. If you notice that your key fob becomes less responsive when you press the lock or unlock button, it might be time to replace its battery.

You can enable this feature using the key fob if your vehicle comes with a dealer-installed Engine Remote Start. The car will then cool or heat to the temperature it was at when parked. It can run for up to 15 minutes.

Remove the cover that covers the back of the key fob by using your fingernail. Under the cover and on a diagonal at the edge of body, you will find the button. Remove it by sliding it downwards and to the right. The cover will then come free and slide away and reveal the manual key blade inside! If you can't find the button, check the now-uncovered manual key access for a lever or slot.

Close the Windows

One of the lesser-known features that is not visible on Volvo key fobs is that you can close all windows in a matter of seconds when you use the fobs. This is a great feature when trying to squeeze into tight parking spaces or simply want fresh air while driving.

Press and hold the unlocking button on your Volvo remote control for four seconds. This will lower the windows and the sunroof, if you have one. Once you're done with the vehicle, you can close all the windows by pressing the lock button again for four seconds.

You can also activate the panic alarm inside your car by using the key fob. This will sound a loud, attention-grabbing blare that will frighten off thieves and allow you to return home at a safe distance after a night out. This feature is useful should you live in a dangerous location or want to protect your family when you are away from home.

Opening the Tailgate

Volvo has loaded its key fobs with a lot of handy features. These are ideal when you're juggling groceries or helping your kids pack their sports gear after practice.

For example, if you have the Hands-Free Power Liftgate with logo projection and programmable height (if equipped) You can open it by using the key fob. Simply press the button open it, and then use the same button to close it once you're done.

When you're ready to start your vehicle, use the key fob to press the START button (and don't be concerned about your battery going out or your car not starting since it comes with a backup mechanical key slot too). This is one of the many tricks that can be useful for your brand new Volvo.

Turning Off the Alarm

Modern key fobs are much more practical than a mechanical car key. However, they don't work in a perfect way for a long time, and their batteries can eventually die. If you're in a hurry and don't want to visit an establishment to have your key fob reset, you can try to achieve it at home.

Choose a clean, flat surface and lay out your key fob, battery and any other keys. Place the key fob on the surface with the Volvo logo facing up and then locate a tiny black button at the left side of the fob. Slide it to the right. The cover should fall off and reveal the key blade that is mechanical beneath.

The key fob's unlock button twice quickly, and you will be able open all doors and the tailgate. The lock button will also close the windows and sunroof (if fitted) by pressing it for 2 seconds. Connect the battery and the alarm will stop. If it does not, the owner's guide should contain a reset process.
